GMC Game Night - revised!

Game Night will be held on Wednesday, March 15th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the home of Pat and Stuart Howe, 33 Pine Acres Road, Spencer.
Pat and Stuart have many types of games, but if you have a favorite please bring it. RSVP via text or call Pat on her cell phone (508-868-5949), or email Pat at phowe@wpi.edu.
You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to participate. The speed limit on their dirt road is 10 mph. Please be mindful when crossing the two small bridges.

Hike the Barre Trails

815 Worcester Rd, Barre, MA 01005, USASaturday, March 18, 2023 at 9:30 AM. Hike the new trails in Barre, MA. We will meet at the trailhead of the Barre Trails at 9:30 AM on Route 122 just beyond the J & J Family Restaurant coming from Worcester.
You will see a small parking lot and kiosk on the left hand side of the road after the J &J Family Restaurant (Google Maps 815 Worcester Road, Barre). This will be a 4-mile hike over wooded, moderate terrain. Please call leader Gary Brigham at 508-471-7867 or email him at gbrighammt@aol.com to register. Paddle the Sevenmile River - Spencer
Paddle the Sevenmile River, an enticing 6.5-mile paddle by canoe or kayak. The river is a narrow winding stream with some fallen trees creating hazards, more challenging. We may encounter shallow water shoals where we will be forced to wade and drag our watercraft. The river is a moderate difficulty rating.
Participants are asked to bring their lunch, water bottle, rain gear and a change of clothes in a waterproof container in case of capsize. Everyone will be expected to wear a pfd (life vest). Participants are asked to sign the “Waiver of Liability” before participating in any AMC activities. You do not have to be a member of the AMC to participate on this trip. Call leader David Miller at 508-853-8964 or email him at sentierdeau@gmail.com to register for the trip. A few loaner boats are available at a nominal charge. Inform the leader to borrow a boat, and after being accepted for the event contact AMCPaddle@gmail.com (cc’ing the leader) with your request.
Covid 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers to be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of the event. AMC relies on an honor system for compliance. Participants will be required to wear masks during the car shuttle. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in the AMC or GMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.

Hike the Buffumville North Loop Trail - Charlton
Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester, 90 Holden St, Worcester, MA 01606, USAHike the Buffumville Lake North Loop Trail.
AllTrails describes the area as follows:
“Explore this … loop trail near Charlton, Massachusetts. Generally considered a moderately challenging route…. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and paddle sports, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.”
“Almost 500 acres of land comprise the natural environment at Buffumville Lake. Forms of recreation include fishing, hunting, seven miles of multi-use trails, and group picnic shelters. The lake is also popular for canoeing, kayaking and primitive boat-in camping. Buffumville Lake is a 200-acre (0.81 km2), 5.2-billion-US-gallon (20,000,000 m3) capacity United States Army Corps of Engineers flood control lake project located in Charlton, Massachusetts. The lake and surrounding grounds are open to the public for hiking, boating, fishing, and hunting. A 27-hole frisbee golf course is located next to the lake. Buffumville Lake is managed as a unit with the nearby Hodges Village Dam flood control project.”
Participants will meet in the UUCW church parking lot at 90 Holden Street in Worcester at 10:30 on Saturday morning, April 1 (no fooling), and drive to the Buffumville Lake boat launch for parking at 11:00. We will proceed counterclockwise around the lake completing the north loop (about three miles) and looking for a scenic lookout by the lakeshore, where we will pause for lunch. We will return to church in late afternoon. Participants are asked to bring their lunch, water bottle, and rain gear in case of a shower. Spring Work Party on Stratton Mountain section of the Long Trail (VT)

The Worcester Section Spring Work Party on the Stratton Mountain Section of the Long Trail. Some of us will carpool from Paxton at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning. We will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the LT/AT Trailhead on the Arlington West-Wardsboro Rd. (Kelly Stand Rd).
